Spell check is a tool most of us take for granted. It is integrated into virtually every piece of software we use, from our word processors to our email clients. Some of us even use browsers with integrated spell check! But, have you ever noticed that when you spell a word really badly, most spell checkers have no clue with what word to replace it? This problem is amplified for those with dyslexia and many to whom English is a second language. English is one of the hardest languages to learn because sometimes words are spelled phonetically, and other times they are not. And, several letters of the English alphabet have the same phonetic sounds as other letters. To complicate the matter for dyslexics, several of the letters look way too much alike, especially in lower case. Think about b, d, p and q —to the dyslexic mind, these letters can look the same.
